Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (AMU; Polish: Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu) is one of the major Polish universities, located in the city of Poznań in western Poland. It opened on May 7, 1919, and since 1955 has carried the name of the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz.
AMU is a state institution of higher education. With the staff of around 3000 lecturers and 53.000 students, the University ranks among the biggest academic centres in Poland. The University offers studies in 190 disciplines and specialisations, ranging from biotechnology to philosophy, from sound engineering to tourism and recreation, from sinology to European administration. AMU has 14 faculties organised into institutes and departments.
